What is
respite?
Respite
homes provide short-term care on an intermittent basis; at the
parent's request the child is taken into an approved home for a few
days at a time (e.g. two days a week,
four days a month). The family is very much involved and often makes
the placement directly with the caregiver.
What are Family
Support Services?
Knucwentwecw
Society provides referrals to Daycare Subsidy, dependent on social
need. Respite services are also available to family who require the
extra support this service offers. These services along
with referrals to other agency supports are meant to increase
parenting skills and family development.
What
is the Sacred Family Circles Program?
The
Sacred Family Circles Program is also known as Family Group
Conferencing enables family members and their supports to come
together and develop plans that ensures the safety of their
children. The Sacred Family Circle is a way of celebrating family
and community.
What
is a delegated agency?
The
Provincial Director of the Ministry of Children and Family
Development delegates his/her authority to the agency under the
Child, Family and Community Services Act Legislation. This gives
the agency the legal right to provide child protection and family
support services to our clients.
Which
communities does your organization service?
We
serve the Williams Lake Indian Band, Canoe Creek Indian Band, Soda
Creek Indian Band and the Canim Lake Indian Band.
How do I become
a foster parent?
This
process starts with an application package which can be picked up at
the Knucwentwecw Society or we can mail one to you. A meeting with
our Resource Social Worker will follow. Knucwentwecw Society is
interested in partnering with families who can assist both parents
and children by providing short-term respite care or longer care
plans if needed.
What are the
eligibility requirements for the Lorna Amut bursary?
The
applicant can apply if they are a community member from one of the
following communities Williams Lake Indian Band, Soda Creek Indian
Band, Canoe Creek Indian Band and the Canim Lake Indian Band
